Resources for People in Recovery and Their Loved Ones

They say it takes a village to accomplish nearly anything challenging or anything worth doing. Fighting against mental health and substance use disorders is no exception. Consider Ikon Recovery part of your village.

We’ve curated a list of practical resources and educational materials you can purchase or use free of charge.

One of the common deceptions we can succumb to is the idea that we know what to do in a crisis and that we’ll remember when the time comes. But this creates a false sense of security.

When you’re in a state of stress (crisis, severe cravings, danger, etc.), your body and your mind respond differently than when you’re in total control, leading to reduced processing and memory loss.[1] Don’t rely on your memory or the recall of a loved one in a crisis or emergency. Save these resources and contacts in your phone for easy access when you need them most.

Find Narcan Near You

If you or a loved one experiences an opioid overdose, Narcan (naloxone) could save a life. Find where to get Narcan near you here.

*If someone is overdosing NOW, call 911 immediately or get to the nearest emergency room. Even if you have Narcan available, they may still need medical attention.

National Crisis Hotline: For Suicide Prevention and Other Crises

Save the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-TALK) and the Suicide Crisis Hotline (988). These resources provide immediate crisis support for yourself when no one else is around or a loved one you’re attempting to help.

Therapists, Life Coaches, Spiritual Leaders, and Counselors

If you are seeing a therapist, medical provider, or other professional regarding your challenges with substance or alcohol use disorder, designate them in your phone as a trusted contact who will answer when you need them.

Get To The Closest Hospital

Save the address and phone number of your closest local hospital and include the Hospital Locator link.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

SAMHSA provides a 24/7 helpline where you can receive information on treatment and local support groups. Save 1-800-622-HELP.

Poison Control Center

The National Poison Control Center is another potentially life-saving contact that should be saved in everyone’s contacts: 1-800-222-1222

Trusted Emergency Contacts

Save a list of trusted friends, family, mentors, sponsors, or neighbors who can be relied on for support in an emergency.

The local New Jersey community is brimming with generosity, compassion, and support. So many people and organizations are eager to be a light in the darkness for you and your loved one. You only have to tap into the resources at your disposal to get the help you need to stay focused and on track. Some  opportunities for local and community support may include:

Local Recovery Meetings

These meetings are attended by leaders and others who are on the same recovery journey. If you’re looking for immediate support, this is a good place to start. Check for both locally hosted meetings and local chapters of national organizations.

Volunteer Your Time To Serve Your Community

Volunteering is an opportunity to give back and support others who need the help you once needed or who could benefit from your support and experience. This positive activity can fill you with a sense of purpose and pride, helping you maintain focus and motivation.

Join A Fitness Studio

Research reveals that a person in recovery has between 16 and 18 hours a week of free time—time that was previously dedicated to alcohol or substance abuse.[2] Physical exercise and personal development are specifically beneficial activities to add to your schedule during recovery as you learn new habits and cultivate healthy routines. Here, you may also encounter others on a similar journey or build new relationships with other driven and goal-oriented people.

Experience Your Community From A Sober Perspective

There are likely many fun and interesting activities within your community that you’ve never heard of, thought about, or tried. Start with specifically sober events and broaden your horizons as you feel equipped to do general activities, sightseeing, adventures, and experiences.

What Makes Ikon Recovery Different?

Types of Addiction Treatment In New Jersey

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

A Partial Care or Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers a structured environment for those who need more support than standard outpatient care but don’t need full-time inpatient or residential treatment for substance abuse recovery.[3] During a PHP program, you will participate in therapy, behavioral health, support groups, medication management, and other activities while working toward personal autonomy

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program is the perfect blend of outpatient with consistent support throughout the week, without requiring daily attendance. Here you will reap all the same benefits and treatment options of a PHP program but enjoy more schedule flexibility.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

This level of care is designed for those who have reached a certain level of stability and independence. Someone at this stage of recovery is ready for weekly support services and behavioral therapy as needed or as per their individualized treatment plan.

Specialty Treatment Programs

Aftercare and Sober Living

A few weeks of ongoing support or even a few months is simply not enough. The community we’ve developed at Ikon Recovery is committed to being a lifelong partner in your recovery journey—long after formal alcohol or substance abuse treatment has ended.

Our aftercare treatment services are tailored to meet your individual needs with customized plans that include ongoing counseling, family therapy, support groups, lifestyle and transition support, housing assistance, continued education, and more to address the unique challenges of the post-treatment phase.

Committing to a treatment center can be overwhelming. To ease the stress and fear that surrounds this decision process, we recommend you look for the following attributes in your treatment center options:

Specialty Programming

Life is complicated, and so are schedules, needs, and goals. Treatment programs should rise to the occasion to meet you where you are at any age, stage, or phase of life.

Long-Term Support

Substance abuse and mental health treatment should never end when your 30 to 90 days are over. You are on a lifelong journey, and the support you receive should reflect that.

Individualized Treatment

Many are on similar recovery paths, but no one’s journey is exactly like yours. You need a custom-tailored treatment plan that meets your needs and sets you up to pursue your goals

Alternative and Innovative Interventions

While several gold-standard treatment options have stood the test of time in treating alcohol and substance misuse, many alternative and cutting-edge options offer an entirely fresh approach with similar success.

A Community Focus

Your treatment center should be your village. It should be your recovery family, ready to aid, support, and challenge you as needed. At Ikon Recovery, we’re doing more than treating substance and alcohol use disorders. We’re building an empowering community of practical support.
